Emotions play an important role in memory: they make it easier to remember and recall events, especially when those were experienced with strong emotional intensity. It also highlights that the brain links similar sensations or emotions to past memories, which can make them reappear more easily. On the other hand, very intense stress can disrupt memory, and may even create distorted or traumatic memories. Therefore, emotions can strengthen memory, but too much stress or negative emotion can weaken it.
